Five miles of nature trails explore the park’s 237-acres. Hike along a stream, through hardwood and pine forests, past wildflowers and ferns, through wetlands and alongside two lakes. Mountain Biking is allowed on designated trails when trail surface is dry. A kids playground is available that features swings, slides, sand play area, and other play equipment. Visit the playground near a large open playing field, volleyball court, picnic shelter, basketball court, and restroom building. Play area is located a short walk from the north entrance’s parking lot.

Wet a line and let the scenery cast your cares away. Fishing on either the lower lake or more remote upper lake is allowed from our boathouse dock or the bank. N.C. Fish and Wildlife laws apply.  The park also offers canoe days in the warmer months. A variety of habitats in the park provide wonderful wildlife viewing.  Visit the Bird Garden anytime of the year for guaranteed birding and visit the interpreted Butterfly Garden. Find an array of nature and nature craft programs for all ages, canoe rental days and social events such as fireside concerts in the the Leisure Ledger. There are several summer camps that meet at the park including Camp Ranoca North, Camp Ranoca Challenge, Camp Friendly, Adventure Camp and Survival Skills Camp.

Event rental facilities include:
Campbell Lodge, Training Lodge, Sweetgum Shelter. Please call the park office for further details or to reserve a facility 919-870-2871.

Located a couple miles north of I-540 and just off Capital Blvd. Park access is from 8 a.m. until dusk.
