William B. Umstead State Park
Divided into two sections, Crabtree Creek and Reedy Creek, this 5,577-acre park features nature trails with over 16 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails, picnic areas, cabins, lake and streams. The visitors center has a free park map, and staff to any questions, and use the nice restrooms before heading out onto the trails. There are three lakes for fishing (Big Lake has boat rentals), and two have swimming areas. Park access is available from both Interstate 40 and US 70.
Park hours are from
November through February, 8 am to 6 pm
March and October, 8 am to 7 pm
April, May, September, 8 am to 8 pm
June through August, 8 am to 9 pm
